What is Sustainable Fruitarianism?

When taking ethics into our food choices, we probably tend to avoid meat and fish. Recently, vegans avoid all animal products because of the torture and animal exploitation. It is less common to consider also plants in our circle of compassion.

What do we know about Plants?

In the last decades, there have been many studies in Plant neurobiology (e.g. [1]). They study their chemical and electrical signals, related perception and behavior.  Plants attract animals with their juicy and sweet fruits. They nourish them and, at the same time, animals disseminate their seeds far away from the plant. Plants cleverly created this symbiosis with animals where we, plants and fruit eaters, can help each other and grow together. When attacked by herbivores or pathogens, they increase the production of secondary metabolites to protect themselves. Some of these toxins, in large quantities, are even able to kill animals [2].

Here the effect of music on plant growth by the experiment of Dorothy Retallack [3].

When we understand that plants are living beings who want to live, we might want to take them also out from our plate. But how can we survive living with fruits? Perhaps we are interested to know that we are frugivores. George Cuvier is the pioneer of Comparative Anatomy [4]. Comparing teeth, vision, intestine length, etc, we can conclude what our best food is. A confirmation also comes from recent Paleoanthropology: our primates were fruit eaters [5].

What is Sustainable Fruitarianism?

The concept of Fruitarianism seems pretty clear: we eat only fruits. However, among "fruitarians", some of them still consume nuts (seeds of the plant) or leaves (parts of the plant). Others have to consume 20/30 bananas per day, they're always hungry and after a while develop several problems with their teeth. Sustainable Fruitarianism provides a way of living that allows you to take profit of all of your life. It gives you benefits on the available energy, on the general health as well as on your budget.

With respect to the circadian rhythms, we tend to eat less during the day while having a larger amount of food in the evening. In this way, our energy is not spent on the digestion of very demanding food but it is fully available for our muscles and brain. In the evening a larger quantity of fruits is allowed. The energy that goes to our digestive system will allow to relax our body before going to sleep. This can be respected with the MDA protocol.

Features of the human circadian biological clock [6].

Besides, a very important consideration goes to the acidity of food. Since most of the sweet fruits are slightly acidic, they have to be balanced by veggie and fat fruits (alkaline). Consequently, the usage of strongly acidic fruits as lemons, oranges, grapefruit, kiwi, pineapple etc is not recommended. So, how do we eat?

The MDA Protocol

The concept is to consume sweet red apples in the morning, three types of sweet fruits at lunch and an alkaline dinner in the evening.
Breakfast M (mela in Italian = apple) – Apple
Lunch D (dolce in Italian = sweet) – Sweet fruits
Dinner A – Alkaline (based on veggie and fat fruits)
The MDA protocol allows a strong detox by following the circadian rhythms.

Our Delicious Food

By Carpothecnics, the art of creating all of our traditional recipes with fruits, we are able to enjoy delicious pizzas, burgers, tacos, spaghetti, crêpes, cakes, waffles etc. We believe our taste buds are properly designed for fruits.
