When taking ethics into our food choices, we probably tend to avoid meat and fish. Recently, vegans avoid all animal products because of the torture and animal exploitation. It is less common to consider also plants in our circle of compassion. What do we know about Plants? In the last decades, there have been many studies in Plant neurobiology (e.g. [1]). They study their chemical and electrical signals, related perception and behavior. Plants attract animals with their juicy and sweet fruits. They nourish them and, at the same time, animals disseminate their seeds far away from the plant. Plants cleverly created this symbiosis with animals where we, plants and fruit eaters, can help each other and grow together. When attacked by herbivores or pathogens, they increase the production of secondary metabolites to protect themselves. Some of these toxins, in large quantities, are even able to kill animals [2].
